Al Kimiya – Jãbir
The history of alchemy would not be complete if we did not include Jãbir, whose full name was Abū Mūsā Dschābir ibn Hayyān and Latinized into “Geber”. The Arab polymath lived most probably in the 8th century and could, without exaggeration call himself alchemist, astronomer, astrologer, engineer, geographer, philosopher and physician and is also considered as the “father of chemistry”. The development of scientific methods, the invention of the alembic and retort have been attributed to him as well as methods such as filtration and distillation. With the latter he also founded the manufacture of perfumes.
This great spirit of superior intelligence and creativity is described by a spicy and fresh-floral blend of pink pepper, freesia and violet. The heart continues the floral theme with cool rose, lily of the valley and peonies, but without being too sweet. Vanilla, patchouly, vetiver and musk adorn the base notes along with agarwood which leaves behind its inimitable mark.
“Jabir” from Lemi proves to be a floriental and is more likely to be suited to women despite its male namesake.
In this sense, it straddles the line between the tangible and the intangible, the earthly and the ethereal, the real and the magical. Islamic philosophers also made great contributions to alchemical hermeticism. The most influential author in this regard was arguably Jãbir (Abū Mūsā Dschābir ibn Hayyān).
